Did you know that natural spices and herbs can heal your body and keep you healthy?

The very same spices that are in your cupboards can do wonders for your life. Our favorites are garlic, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. All have been shown to prevent cancer and other diseases. Here are some key health benefits to each one of these amazing spices:

- Garlic helps strengthen your body's defenses against allergies; helps loosen plaque from the artery walls; helps regulate your blood sugar levels; helps to prevent cancer, and is the best choice for killing and expelling parasites such as pin worms from the human body. For ear infections: Wrap a small piece of garlic in some tissue, and insert it into the ear. Leave it there overnight if possible. Pain is almost immediately removed and the infection tends to start clearing up overnight. For scratchy throats: Put a small slice of garlic in your mouth and suck on it for 10-15 minutes. You can put it between your teeth and cheek, then scratch it with your teeth a little to help stimulate juice from the garlic slice. This juice slides down your throat and removes the pain.

-Ginger has been used as a natural remedy for many ailments for centuries. From migraines to motion sickness to cancer, ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and is a powerful painkiller. Cold sore relief can be achieved with this tea: steep 1 teaspoon dried sage in 1 cup boiling water. Strain and add 1 teaspoon ginger. Drink three cups throughout the day. Ginger also works as well as aspirin as a blood thinner. Take two capsules of powdered ginger each day. Ginger is also beneficial for arthritis relief, especially rheumatoid arthritis.

- Cinnamon has been known to help relieve toothache pain. Simply make a paste using five teaspoons of honey mixed with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply a small amount of this paste directly onto the aching tooth 2 or 3 times daily until the pain is relieved. You can store any extra paste in a small container at room temperature. Other studies have shown that just 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon per day can lower LDL cholesterol and that it also has a regulatory effect on blood sugar, making it especially beneficial for people with Type 2 diabetes. Cinnamon has also shown an amazing ability to stop medication-resistant yeast infections and is also used for cancer prevention.

- Turmeric (also known as Curcumin) has been used for over 2500 years for its anti-inflammatory properties. Recent research has revealed that turmeric is a natural wonder, proving beneficial in the treatment of many different health conditions from cancer to Alzheimer's disease. Since turmeric is a cholagogue, and aids in the breakdown of dietary fat, adding turmeric to daily cooking or a glass of water can help in controlling weight. This wonder-spice can be found in capsule form in many natural or health food stores. A good dosage of turmeric provides 400 mg to 600 mg of Turmeric taken three times a day.

-Cayenne pepper will help a wound stop bleeding quickly. Simply sprinkle the pepper liberally on the cut. Believe it or not, it doesn't sting! Many herbalists rank cayenne among the most useful and valuable herbs; it's known to be effective for the entire digestive tract, as well as for the heart and circulatory system. Cayenne pepper can help lower blood pressure. Add 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper to 1 cup of hot water and drink daily. Alternatively, you could take the pepper in capsule form (2 capsules daily would be a good dosage). This anti-cancer spice also acts as a catalyst: it increases the effectiveness of other herbs when it's used with them
